One of my dreams for many years now is to one day sail to Iceland. I remember the day I bought my boat, it suddenly hit me that this could actually happen one day. I had never thought this dream might one day become a reality…
.
This new collection of hats is inspired by Captains and Skippers that in turn have inspired me.
Þuríður, or Thurídur Einarsdóttir, is a famous Icelandic Captain. As far as I can tell, she joined her first fishing crew (her fathers) at the age of 11, and was one of the best sailors and fisherwomen known in Iceland.
One incredible fact is that over the course of her lifetime as a skipper at sea she never lost a crew-member. Born in 1777, she died at the age of 86 (!) and one of the places I would like to visit if I ever get to Iceland, is the replica of her ships cabin.
.
The colours I choose for the Thuridur inspired hat reflect to me the colours of the North Atlantic sea: Dangerous, cold, but exceptionally beautiful.
