So I am both French and Irish. Half half you could say. Which half you ask? Well, it depends on the day!
.
Being French, and with the family I have, I grew up knowing all about Jaques Cousteau. Deep sea diver and pioneer, inventor, adventurer, explorer… and passionate about the conservation of our oceans.
.
During the summer, we would spend time with my family on the coast of Brittany. I was that child who would spend their day at the beach in the water. It was impossible to get me out of the sea, and I would explore the sea bed and the animals there in wonderment and respect.
After a long beach day we were often rewarded with a “Diabolo,” a mix of lemonade and syrup, and my favourite was the Grenadine flavour, mixed with the salt on my lips it made for a delicious combination, and was the same red as Cousteau’s famous beanie hat.
.
Then Life Aquatic came out, and what great parody/homage to Cousteau! As a fun gift to the crew that sailed my own boat from Scotland to Ireland, I got them all red beanies. So it was only natural that one of my Skipper hats would be inspired by the great Cousteau, and a little by Steve Zissou too!
