Imprints & Ink is a new Irish fashion and illustration brand founded by Claire Malone, a recent printed textile design graduate of NCAD. Drawing inspiration from Dublin’s beautiful botanical archives, she creates luxury printed silk scarves from her home studio in Kildare.
“After leaving school I decided to study at NCAD, Dublin, which had been a lifelong dream of mine. Originally, I had thought I would pursue a degree in fine art because of my love of creating detailed paintings and drawings but I soon discovered the endless possibilities of a field that was entirely new to me- the field of design.
I studied printed textile design which explores the design applications of image, colour and pattern in fashion and interior contexts. This course allowed me to combine all of the aspects of art and design that I enjoyed- painting, drawing, photography, screen printing and digital design.”
The “Rare Treasures” collection incorporates botanical imagery of some of our rarest native plant species to shine a light on the importance of their conservation and protection.
Imprints & Ink’s colourful printed scarves are available in luxurious pure silk qualities. Each scarf features a different threatened native plant species and captures the plant in an evocative way by borrowing inspiration from the wild and remote corners of Ireland where they grow.
A palette inspired by the moody tones of rural Irish landscapes combines subtle and muted colours with richer shades to create contrasting combinations. Vibrant colours and earthy tones of purple-grey and rust create modern and fashion-forward designs.
